AP120 and Fireware 12.11.4

edited November 9 in WiFi - Firebox Managed

I just upgraded to FW 12.11.4 and my AP120 (x3) are stuck at "Discovered". I understand they aren't supported any more but does that mean they won't connect and aren't usable?
How can I get them to at least connect?

Will I have to downgrade until I replace my AP120's?

FW 12.11.4 (from 12.8.2)

Cannot connect to APs after Firebox upgrade to Fireware v12.11

    From it:

    To workaround this issue:

Downgrade your Firebox to Fireware v12.10.
Use the Gateway Wireless Controller to upgrade your access points to the latest firmware version.
You might need to re-trust your APs before you can manage the device and upgrade the firmware.
Upgrade the Firebox to Fireware v12.11.

  • And, from the Fireware v11.12.2 Update 1 Release Notes

"After you upgrade to Fireware v11.12.2, you must trust any AP100/102, AP200, and AP300 devices in your deployment. See the What's New in Fireware v11.12.2 presentation for important information about this new feature."

  • Thanks Bruce;
I double checked my AP firmware before I updated to 12.11 and I had the latest firmware on my AP's.
My AP120's were at 8.8.3-12, so I wasn't expecting any problems.

I power cycled one at the POE switch; it went 'unreachable' then back to 'discovered' but not further.

    I wonder if I shouldn't have upgraded to 12.11 from 12.8?

  • Supposedly, the old Wifi 5 models should still operate with their last known configuration, but can no longer be updated from the Gateway Wireless Controller.

  • I have an old AP200 in a closet someplace, but I have not tried it with 12.11.4

  • We still have 3 AP200's that connected just fine! I would have thought they wouldn't be connected either!

I will do my first 'downgrade' and see what happens.

Thanks again Bruce for the information.
I downgraded back to 12.8.2 and my AP120's came back online as expected.
I then upgraded to 12.10.4-2 and my AP120's are still online without issues, I'm will upgrade to 12.11.4 another day.

  • Thank Bruce!
I upgraded from 12.10.4-2 to 12.11.4 hoping the smaller jump would help...not so!
I down graded again, then tried the smaller upgrade to 12.11...not any better!

I have tested a connection, my laptop connects to one of my AP120, I have internet but I can't see any connection or that I've even connected through my GWC. That's not going to help me if anyone has any issues, so I'm off to ask to spend $$ and learn Cloud WiFi!

I will be down grading once more until I can get AP's that work with 12.11.x.

The same release notes do mention the AP120 isn't supported by the 12.11.x firmware, so looks like 12.10.4 will be the last supported one you can manage the APs on until the APs can be replaced with something else.

Alas it will be a different management plane no matter what the replacement AP is.
