Firebox Crashed - Stating no Feature key installed

Came in this morning and my entire network was down. All machines were connected to the T25 with no network access. I always have a tab open that is connected to the firebox ui. I switched to that tab (wish i would have taken a snip) and the left menu bar was there but there was an error over the top of it saying there was no feature key installed on this box. There was more that i could not read because it was overlapping the menu. There were buttons which the labels for them i could not read, Yes, No and Cancel i think. All the lights on the box that are normally on were on but they were blinking once a second, coincidentally in the same pattern as one of my 2 switches. The other switch every light was on solid no blinking, and I only have about half of them being used. I had to reboot the firebox and when that came back up reset my second switch. All is back up and working. In case anyone is wondering yes we have a feature key full till 2026. I have made changes to it just the other day setting up Imap and Smpt policies for a new email server... This is my first box in production and it has been a tank for over a year now with no incident. I have never seen anything like this and am just trying to figure out what could cause this? Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

  • For the record, what Fireware version are you running?

No I have not, but I upgrade to each new Fireware version, including betas, so my firewall ends up getting rebooted fairly often.

    Any Fault Reports?

Consider opening a support case on this.

  • Fireware Version: 12.8.3.B674169
There is no Fault Report listed on the dashboard as well. I really wish i would have taken a screenshot of this i was in a hurry to get servers back up...

    Hi @RadFi
If the firewall had crashed, the WebUI connection had likely failed when that happened. Once the WebUI is loaded in your browser, it will attempt to query the firewall for information (which it was not responding to.)

I'd suggest disregarding whatever error messages you saw on it at that time. Our support team may be able to help determine what happened via a support case provided the device left a fault report (which you'd see in the top right of your WebUI page in the system information area, if there is one.)

I would suggest upgrading your Fireware as 12.8.3 is the RTM (release to manufacturer) version for that firewall (T25) -- meaning it was never updated to the latest version when it was installed. A number of bugs have been fixed since that June 2023 release and that could potentially solve your issue.
