Still use an expired Cloud controlled AP?

I have 2 AP's that have an expired Cloud subscription. Is there a way to move it to a Firebox controller? Or do I need to buy a basic license for it?

    Hi @KevCar

I'd suggest renewing them, as moving them to GWC managed will severely limit what you can do with them.

You can read more about limitations and what you can do here:

    (About WatchGuard AP License Subscriptions)
    https://www.watchguard.com/help/docs/help-center/en-US/Content/en-US/Fireware/wireless/ap_subscriptions.html

If you'd like to move them to Basic (GWC) managed:

  • I purchased a basic license for it. And although I applied the license to it I am getting an Activation Status of "Not Available". When I go into our Manage Products it shows that support is now enabled on it. But clicking on it takes me to a 500 Error webpage. Put in a ticket a day ago. Still nothing. Support seems to be getting worse. Couple of months back I submitted a case and it took them a week to get back.

    Hi @KevCar
I found your case -- Customer care will need to have the issue fixed in our system.

In the meantime, I was able to pull the license key for it -- if you look in your case it's attached as key.txt there.

    If it's already paired:
-Open Firebox System Manager and go to the Gateway Wireless Controller tab. In WebUI it's under System Status -> Gateway Wireless.
-Highlight your AP and go to Actions -> update AP feature key. Paste the key there.

If it's not already paired, please try following the pairing process here:
    https://www.watchguard.com/help/docs/help-center/en-US/Content/en-US/Fireware/wireless/ap_gwc_config_c.html?

When you reach the point GWC says the AP isn't licensed, go to the above mentioned menu and paste the key in.

  • Thanks for the Key but its not paired and it will not let me pair either. The error is "You cannot save the configuration for an AP that does not have an active license."

    @KevCar I see
I've made sure you're in the right queue for that type of issue. If this is urgent they may get to you a bit faster if you call (use the customer care option in the phone tree at +1.877.232.3531)
