Update Feature Key on Managed Firebox (MSP no longer)

We have a Firebox T80 that was managed by an MSP. This relationship has gone sour and we now find we cannot update the Feature key as it is "locked" to their management server.

How can I break that management link and enter the new Feature Key ?

  • Try this:
If you attempt to connect to the firewall using WSM directly (using file -> connect to device) you should be able to connect.. When you open policy manager, select the option to release from central managed mode. Once it finishes loading, you should be able to go to File -> Open -> Configuration File.

The above comment is assuming you have both the status and admin passwords.

Most MSPs rent/lease their devices to their customers -- if you were paying monthly for your firewall, your MSP may require you to return your device. Check your agreement with that MSP to be sure.

Probably add if it was under the WatchGuard MSSP licensing setup then I believe the best you'd get is the configuration to import to a new Firebox as MSSP appliances can't be converted licensing wise to retail for some reason (they'd also expire).
