Multi-WAN VLAN interface type error ...

Hi,

I try to configure a multi-wan setup on our T85 with Fireware v12.11.1. We currently use PPPoE with VLAN on the external interface because this is required for our ISP.

After everything was configured including Link Monitor I tried to save it on the box, the policy manager give me the following error:

"Error communication with Firebox . INTERNAL_ERROR: Interface type for interface must be External"

So is it not possible to use VLAN based external interfaces with multi-wan in general or is there a trick or workaround?

Many thanks,
Erik

    Hi @elbPV
If you make an external VLAN, the only interfaces that can exist on that VLAN interface are External ones. If there is a mix of other interface types, it will not let you save.

If you're running into a different issue, please consider opening a support case. You can do so via the support center link at the top right of this page.

VLAN externals are possible, but they are segregated to ensure other data can't traverse to external.

  • Good morning james,

thanks for your answer - everything is fine if we use the external VLAN based on eth0/WAN interface in a single WAN interface setup. But if we try to change the configuration to multi-wan including link montor etc. the upload to the box failed. It seems that only physical external interfaces are accepted on multi-wan setups, no external VLANs ...?

    Many thanks,
    Erik

    Hi Erik,

That sounds buggy -- I'd suggest opening a support case. If the behavior isn't expected one of our technicians can help get a bug created so this can be fixed.

In my set-up, I'm able to set link monitor on an external VLAN, so there's likely an error or something else preventing that setting.
