Header Line too Long

T70 with 12.5.7.B638640

I have been trying to get to this site. https://www.nakedwines.com.au/
Don't worry about the name. There is no nudity - they just sell wine.

When I try to go there, I get a "header-line too large" message and access to the site is blocked.

No problem. I review this page -> https://www.watchguard.com/help/docs/help-center/en-US/Content/en-US/Fireware/proxies/http/http_responses_gen_settings_c.html

I first expand it to 16384 in the proxy action to confirm that is is the problem and the error is still there. I then switch off the option "Set the maximum URL path length to " and the error is still there.

I pasted the line from the error message into MS-Word, which tells me that there are only 923 characters.

Just to be sure that it was not something stuck somewhere, I created HTTP and HTTPS packet filters and I can access the site without any problems.

Any thoughts?

  • With 12.7 beta 5, I get to the main page and all of the rest of the pages without issues.
Looking at Traffic Monitor, I don't see any really long URLs.

But, I'd certainly like to get some more really tasty Aus wines.
Haven't had many good ones since I was down there a good while past.
My favs are from the Adelaide area, Barossa, McClaren Vale, Clare Valley & Longhorn Creek

    Cheers, mate

  • "I first expand it to 16384 in the proxy action"

What is "it" that you expand?

"I then switch off the option "Set the maximum URL path length to " and the error is still there."

Maximum URL path length and header line length are not the same and are in different parts of the settings.

Shouldn't you be making the changes in HTTP Proxy Action > HTTP Response > General Settings > "Set the maximum line length to"?

My "Set the maximum line length to" in that area is 7000 and "Set the maximum total length to" is unchecked. I have no problems loading the web page.

  • That's it Gregg! I was updating the wrong thing. I just set it to 8192 and it now works. Thank you.

  • After some more testing I got it down to 5120. Thanks again. :)
